What is Kybella and How Does it Work?

Kybella is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected directly into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella works by physically destroying the cell membrane of the fat cells.

Once these cells are destroyed, they can no longer store or accumulate fat. Over the weeks following your treatment, your body's natural metabolic processes will gradually clear away the cellular debris, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin.

The Treatment Process

A Kybella treatment is relatively quick, typically taking only 15 to 20 minutes. During the procedure, your AesTonic provider will carefully map out the injection sites under your chin and administer a series of small injections. We use a topical numbing agent and ice to ensure your comfort throughout the process.

It is important to note that Kybella is not a one-and-done treatment. Most patients require a series of 2 to 6 treatment sessions, spaced about a month apart, to achieve their desired results. The exact number of sessions will depend on the amount of submental fat present and your individual aesthetic goals.
